Head of Google Search, Amit Singhal, To Leave
Amit Singhal, the one who helped greatly in creating how Google’s Search functions across all platforms, is said to have announced that he will be leaving the company after 15 years to pursue philanthropic stuff! As the VP of Search he was instrumental in how Google’s search works. He will be replaced by John Giannandrea who works with AI, which could lead to very interesting things.
Mr. Singhal was an engineer at Google, Joined Google in 2000, rewrote the initial algorithm that was written Larry Page and Sergey Brin. He was also an early engineer on Google’s advertising arm, which we all know as Adsense and is synonymous with “PPC”.
His replacement, opens the world of many new things. As we’ve seen other companies and Google start pouring resourced into self-driving cars and voice commands. Machine learning & Deep Learning (RankBrain) are already integral to Google’s search but we hold high hopes for what additional AI functionalities could bring to the table.
Mr. Singhal plans to pursue philanthropic and family interests. Here at The 215 Guys, we know we haven’t heard the last from him. He’s made a profound impact on the search industry – and the impact has certainly helped us!
With Google’s search being stronger than ever, we know that the direction will continue to grow and serve ever more relevant results. We’re also curious for how this may impact their Ad product. While Giannandrea championed machine learning efforts such as photo recognition, we feel that his vision for machine learning could help better connect information.
